How to control the relays which require a coil current exceeding the output current of /CW(Control Word)

Introduction

The CX1000 has PBVCC terminal(3.3V 500mA) and CW terminals(rated current:66mA) for controlling and driving relays.
In the case of using the relays which meet those specifications,
It is able to drive the relays by those terminals directly.

This document explains the circuit diagram example for the following cases.

  • The case of using the relays which require a current exceeding rated current(66mA) of CW.
  • The case of using the 5V rated relays.

Overview

The following example is the circuit diagram example by using 8ch Darlington Sink Driver(TD62083AF, manufactured by TOSHIBA CORPORATION) for the following cases.

  • The case of using the relays which require a current exceeding rated current(66mA) of CW.
  • The case of using the 5V rated relays.

The control of TD62083AF is using /CW[0-15] terminals of CX1000 and inverter IC(TC74HC04, manufactured by TOSHIBA CORPORATION)

The relay using in circuit diagram example is G6K-2P(manufactured by OMRON Corporation) series.

Circuit diagram example

The circuit diagram example is shown in below. The following circuit diagram example is the example of increasing the current of 6 /CW signals.

Parts or terminals nameExplanation
/CW[0-15]Resources of CX1000.
Those terminals are open-collector terminals. those terminals are pulled up to internal 3.3V power supply by 10K Ohm register.
PBVCCResources of CX1000.
This is a utility power supply of 3.3V/500mA.
DC Power SupplyPlease use a optimal resource to rated voltage/current of the relays used.
You can also use PBVCC, Power Supply and RVS on CX1000. If the output voltage/current of those resources are insufficient, Please use a commercially available DC power adapter etc.
TC74HC04APIt uses to generate the input signal of T62083AF from /CW[0-15].
TD62083AFThe IC for driving relays.
This IC has the driving ability for G6K 2P 3V.
G6K-2PThe relay which switches 2 signal lines by 1 control signal.
A variety of rated voltage products have been lineup.
